James Hardy
James Hardy is the former Chief Resilience Officer & Executive Vice President at State Street Corporation.
Mr. Hardy is a C-suite executive with over 35 years of experience spanning technology, operations, risk management, data, operational resilience, regulatory compliance and corporate governance. Throughout his career, he executed transformative global operational and technology change initiatives, particularly within the financial markets. Mr. Hardy has worked extensively in both the US and the UK.
Mr. Hardy served at State Street Corporation for over 20 years, most recently as Chief Resilience Officer (2018-2023) and Chief Data Officer (2014-2020). His earlier roles at State Street included overseeing a KYC/AML transformation program and serving as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Information Officer of the Global Markets division. He began his career as a banking software engineer in the UK before transitioning into technology and operations management. He gained experience within both small and large consulting organizations before taking on leadership roles in complex change initiatives for financial institutions.
Mr. Hardy’s board experience includes serving as a director of Clarient Global LLC, a financial markets industry-wide KYC utility, a board advisor to Duco, a data reconciliation company, a management member of State Street’s Technology and Operational Risk Committee, a board sub-committee, and serving on the advisory board and then the board of the Greater Boston Food Bank. He also represented State Street in various industry associations, including Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA), Institute of International Finance (IIF) and Global Financial Markets Association (GFMA),, with a particular focus on operational and cyber resilience.
Mr. Hardy holds a BSc in Electronic Engineering and Mathematics from the University of Reading, UK, and an MBA from NYU Stern School of Business. He is based in the US.
